Making your sessions really count

Each client is different and so each session, or course of sessions, is adapted to suit each person. It may be that you only need between 1 and 3 sessions if there's a specific phobia or addiction that you want to be free from. If there's a longer-term problem or behaviour that's been affecting your life, we can book you in for a course of help. I have clinics in Bampton and Witney in Oxfordshire, and can easily organise a home visit if needs be.

Your first session
We'll spend time in the first session exploring what's been going on and where you want to get to. We can also discuss how many sessions I think you will need.

You will experience how relaxing it feels to be hypnotised and this will begin laying down new, healthier patterns for the future.

Between sessions we'll agree manageable, appropriate tasks to reinforce the work we’ve done. This could be anything from practicing a calming breathing technique to trying out something that we've discussed.

Most sessions are carried out in the clinic in Witney or Bampton, but I can also visit you at home.

Where the session can help
Sometimes you may just need someone to listen to and believe you, to make sense of what's been happening and why. Or maybe to help you see things from a different point of view. I can do this and gently guide you towards a happier future.

...It could be that you've been meaning to get fit for a while, or eat more healthily? Maybe you're an expert on dieting but the weight keeps coming back. Or it could be that you've been meaning to get fit but you've kept putting it off?

...Do you need the motivation and belief to change your life or career?

...It could be that you don't know why you always seem to pick the wrong partner or relationships just seem to be hard work.

...Maybe it's social situations that worry you or a lack of self-esteem?

...Is stress just becoming unmanageable and you're just about gripping on by your fingertips, or turning to an addiction to help you cope?

How I've worked with other clients
I believe in finding what will be of most benefit for you during your sessions. This could be just sitting and talking things through and then using hypnosis. Or for someone that has been struggling to find motivation to begin getting fit, I've walked round the village with them while we've talked.

For another client, who lived under the cloud of depression and clutter and became incapable of sorting out their home because of grief, I made a home visit and helped them clear that area and reclaim peace of mind.

Sometimes it can be good for a client to test out how well they are doing, while still having a safety net. Say, for someone who has had a fear of being in supermarkets, after enough sessions I'll meet them outside a supermarket and then be somewhere around the store while they see how easily now they find being in the shop.

For someone else, who felt they lacked social skills, we've role played starting conversations with strangers and practiced body language. They've then been set a task of starting a conversation with a cashier in a shop.

As Milton Erickson, father of modern therapy, said when asked about his theory of psychotherapy, “I invent a new theory for each client who walks through the door!”
